The collection of films in this year’s festival was so strong. They were raw, timely, smart, and moving. Regardless of the story and ideas explored in each of the films, the underlying thread that we recognized was caring.

Choosing the jury award winners was a tough decision this year. The films that rose to the top through our process of deliberation are ones that bring some of the more critical issues and encouraging solutions of our times into focus. Blending lessons from traditional western medicine and ancient holistic systems, The Way of Miracles follows the work of holistic practitioner Dr. Mark Mincolla and features interviews with Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Bruce Lipton, and Dr. Shamini Jain. The film explores how the energetic properties of food, thought, and emotion affect immunity and the body’s innate ability to heal.

Academy Award-nominated short film, Let’s Pollute, is our 2022 Culture Shift Award Winner in the short film category. A modern satire on how pollution is our heritage and keeps our economy growing strong, it instructs us on how to be better polluters for a better, blighted tomorrow.

With a focus on the people, circumstances, and seminal events that shaped Vandana’s thinking and defined her purpose, The Seeds of Vandana Shiva reveals how the battle against multinational agribusiness has become a global struggle between two distinct visions for feeding the world.

A searing exposé revealing the ugly truth behind plastic pollution, The Story of Plastic presents a cohesive timeline of how we got to our current global crisis. The film depicts how the oil and gas industry has successfully manipulated the narrative around plastic, and highlights some of the strong global resistance fighting back.

Not Going Quietly

Directed by Nicholas Bruckman

Diagnosed with ALS at the age of 32 and fearing rising healthcare costs in light of proposed tax reform, Not Going Quietly follows Ady Barker and his supporters as he heads for Washington to lead a group voicing its concerns about the future of healthcare in the United States.
